*and one NZ brand, but it made the title too long.
Since moving over to Australia back in 2017, I’ve tried to sample some of the countries home-grown beauty heroes and integrate the winners into my routine – it’s all about immersing yourself right? Many of the brands I was already familiar with and had used before – but there were also a number that I’d never heard of. As Australia is one of the most botanically diverse, but also harshest environments in the world it means that their beauty products are often formulated with this in mind: they are about being tailored to the Aussie lifestyle, and I’m a big fan.
Lucas Papaw
The Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is a multi-use product and a pretty iconic Australian brand. It was the first product I bought for my lips when I arrived in Australia and I’ve not deviated from it since. It’s made using fresh fermented papaya fruit, grown in Queensland and the ointment has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It’s loved by so many Australians because it can be used as a topical application for a huge range of skin complaints: minor burns, sunburn, cuts and minor open wounds etc.

Aesop
Aesop is a luxury Australian brand but sold in over 50 countries so by no means a hidden one – it’s loved by many. I’ve been using Aesop for a long time and love to fill my home with their beautiful products. One of my favourite products (believe it or not) are their Post-Poo drops (yup!). These are a botanical bathroom deodoriser that effectively neutralise disagreeable smells with crisp notes of citrus peel and discreet florals. My sister got me onto these when I was visiting in London and I introduced them into our home when I got back to Melbourne. They’re a nice thing to leave out for guests to use and unlike supermarket chain brands like VIPoo (which I think smells repulsive), this actually smells really lovely!

Antipodes (NZ)
I’ve been writing about Antipodes products since 2015, and they are a brand that I always get excited about. Their products are organic, natural and full of goodness and I love using them. I’ve been using the Manuka Honey Skin Brightening Eye Cream since 2017 (as I vowed to take better care of my under eyes since turning 30) but some of my other favourite Antipodes products include the Skin Brightening & Tone Correcting Serum (great for reducing pigmentation on the skin), the Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum and Grapeseed Butter Cleanser which if you love cleansing balms as much as me, is beautiful.

Jurlique – Jurlique was one of the first PR teams I worked with when I started blogging, and I’ve always held their natural products in high esteem. I really love their Rose Water Balancing Mist (UK/AUS)
Bondi Sands – For the rare occasions when I bother fake tanning, Bondi Sands is my go to! I also highly rate their Tan Erazer for any tanning accidents. (UK/AUS)
Kevin Murphy – I’ve mentioned Kevin Murphy multiple times on my blog now, but I love their range of shampoos and conditioners for keeping my hair in tip top condition. (UK/AUS)
Mecca – Mecca is Australia’s equivalent to Space NK. We have Sephora over here too, but I’d say that Mecca is more popular. They have a lot of own brand products that are really great quality. I love their Hydra Cheek Tint & Illuminating Balm Duo for pretty cheeks and lips.
Frank Body – A fantastic scrub that I know has already taken the UK by storm. I love their Peppermint scrub as an exfoliator (great for removing tan) and I’m obsessed with mint smells. (UK/AUS)
Grown Alchemist – Another Australian brand led by botanics, GA’s skincare line uses all-organic ingredients, ethical packaging and is at an affordable mid-range price point. I love their Age Repair Hand Cream for dreamy soft hands. (UK/AUS)
What are your favourite Australian brands?
I didn’t realise that Kevin Murphy was an Australian brand – with a name like that, I just assumed it was Irish! I love Antipodes and use their Kiwi Seed Oil and I particularly like their serums. I’m a big fan of Bondi Sands too xx
