The Beauty Staples I Can’t Live Without

June 14, 2019 by alice 3 Comments

Whilst I like to swap out my beauty products to align with the current season (a richer moisturiser in winter, a face mist in summer etc) there are some products that fall into my all seasons category because I love them so much. I spent my early years of blogging trying new products out constantly – to the point that I think I burnt myself out and I’m now quite fussy with what I try. Finding new product loves is always exciting, but ultimately I know what works for me – so here are some of my forever ever favourites.

// Kevin Murphy Angel Wash
I started using Kevin Murphy hair products about a year ago and I really love them. I switch between a couple of the shampoos that the brand makes, but one of my favourites is the Angel Wash which is perfect for fine, damaged or coloured hair. It’s a lightweight, sulphate free shampoo that cleans the hair without drying it out making it perfect for frequent use, whilst also smelling amazing. The Angel Rinse conditioner is also brilliant and using the two in combo has really improved the condition of my hair.

// This Work’s Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray isn’t strictly a beauty product, but it aids with beauty sleep so I’m including it. If you do a search of my blog you’ll see I’ve mentioned this product multiple times – I have been using it for years and always rave about it. It’s a calming spray designed to help induce a deep, restful sleep and is infused with essential oils of Lavender, Vetivert  and Wild Chamomile, which blend together to create a beautiful scented spray that helps soothe the body and mind. It’s perfect to use before or after a hectic day when you know you need to calm your nerves and have a good night sleep. Spritzing one or two sprays onto my pillow before sleep always helps me to drift off a little quicker. It helps me to have a deeper sleep, where I don’t wake up in the night and so always feel more refreshed in the morning.

// Clinique Even Better Foundation
I’ve tried a lot of foundations over the years (and have many faves) but I’ve been going steady with the Clinique Even Better foundation for the past 2 years and I adore it. The foundation is fragrance free, provides good coverage (medium), a natural looking finish and feels beautifully light on the skin. It also wears well with heat and humidity which is something to consider when living in Australia.

// & Other Stories Body Souffle

I miss & Other Stories so much now that I don’t live in London and make sure to stock up on their hand creams, scrubs and body creams whenever I go home. I’ve never been very good at moisturising my body regularly (honestly can’t be bothered) but this body souffle is so heavenly that I find myself wanting to slather myself in it. It feels really rich and luxurious but also sinks into the skin quickly meaning I don’t have that sticky feeling which I detest. All the & Other Stories scents are amazing but the Sardonyx Fire fragrance is definitely one of my favourites.

// Olaplex Hair Perfector No.3
If you’ve read up a little on the Olaplex phenomenon, you may know that there are three different formulas (Olaplex 1, 2 and 3). All treatments contain the same key ingredient but in different dosages which is why they all have their own distinct purpose. Olaplex 1 and 2 are professional use products only and would be used in the salon (No. 1 is used in conjunction with hair colour to repair the hair whilst it’s being coloured, and No.2 is usually used after the colour to restore the strength and structure of the hair). Olaplex No. 3 however is a take home treatment that can be used to help rebuild broken bonds in the hair (caused not just by colouring your hair, but also by chemical and thermal damage) and repair it – restoring compromised hair. I use this as a hair mask once a week (or so) and leave it in my hair for a good 15-20 minutes pre-wash to just give my hair some love and help restore any damage that I may have done from regularly applying heat to my hair. It’s a small bottle so you only get a few uses out of it, but for me it’s still well worth the price.
