How To Relax

February 16, 2017 by alice 5 Comments

The prospect of moving countries in 11 weeks is more than a little bit stressful. There is so much to sort out and whilst I consider myself to be someone that falls into the ‘organised personality type’, it’s very easy to get lost in all the process and start to feel overwhelmed.

I used to be more of a worrier than I am now – as I’ve grown up I’ve come to terms with the fact that sometimes stress is unavoidable, sometimes things go wrong. It’s how you deal with these moments that really make the difference between feeling like you can cope with a bump in the road, or having a full blown meltdown. It’s basically all about relaxing.

I’ve been mastering the art of relaxation for 29 years, and let me tell you – I am really good at it.

Having a bath (or hot shower) is absolutely brilliant for relaxation. It’s the opportunity for some uninterrupted me-time and the chance to wash away any stress. I love lighting a few candles, taking in a good book or magazine and adding some Jo Malone Bath Oil for the ultimate pamper.

For me, watching a TV show or movie is the ultimate distraction. It serves as a moment for forgetting about my own life and being absorbed into something completely different. I’m a huge fan of Netflix and love to get cosy on the sofa with blankets and snacks and putting my favourite shows on. Watching on a huge TV like the Panasonic HDR 4K TV is the perfect way to relax and unwind – I’ve just finished watching Last Chance U and really recommend it.

Ditching technology is one of the best things you can do to relax because it gets rid of so much unnecessary stimulation. Things like adult colouring books or scrapbooking are such a good way to occupy your mind with something else. My boyfriend and I have started taking polaroids together so that we can make a scrapbook of our time together – it’s this sort of task which is perfect for me to do when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

This won’t be for everyone, but downsizing my belongings for my move to Australia has really highlighted how therapeutic it can be. I recently went through all of my wardrobes, cupboards and drawers and anything I hadn’t worn or used in a year had to go. I’ve put a lot of items on my Depop so feel free to come and check out what’s up for grabs!

What do you do to relax?

Lovely post – I'm not the best at relaxing, and I think sometimes I just need to let myself do so!

Love this! I should make more time to relax. I usually relax in the gym funnily enough 🙂 Turning off my electronic devices also really helps me unwind! xx

I'm not very good at relaxing in the traditional sense but like you doing some decluttering and reorganising tends to help me out!
