I feel like you can tell a lot about a person from their bedside table. For some it’s just a place to rest their phone and a glass of water, and for others it’s a specially curated group of essential items.
My bedroom is my oasis – I work hard and get up at 5.30am most mornings so prioritise a positive sleep routine, and part of that is ensuring I have everything I need to assist me at arms reach.
I’d love to say I’m one of those people that bans all digital devices 30 minutes before bed – but I’m not. If anything, 30 minutes before bed is the time I’m most active on my phone – my favourite time to scroll and switch off from the day (and thankfully it doesn’t seem to interfere with my sleep!)
For many years now I’ve slept with both an eye mask and earplugs and I honestly can’t rave more about how good I sleep as a result. Sleeping in total darkness is bliss and the ear plugs drown out all noises that might usually disturb me (including my snoring partner).
I’ve recently got into diffusing essential oils, and love to fill my room with sleepy scents before bed. I find lavender an incredibly relaxing scent, and one that’s almost guaranteed to make me feel sleepy. I adore the This Works’ Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and have been using it for many years – it’s not something I use every night, but a couple of sprays onto my pillow can do wonders when I’m feeling more alert than I should be at bedtime.
I also like to keep an abundance of candles by my bedside – even though it’s been a little too hot in Melbourne to burn them over the last few months, I’m looking forward to the opportunity as we descend into Autumn.
Last but not least, a hand cream is an absolute must on my bedside table to apply just before going to sleep. My favourites are by & Other Stories (why don’t they ship to Australia!) as they smell heavenly and are super moisturising.
